Happy 4th of July!!!!

Hello Everyone!!!!!! Happy 4th of July! I hope you all are enjoying your day off from work and your 4th of July activities. So come to find out when you are living on a hospital ship in Liberia on the 4th of July there are NO FIREWORKS. I don't think I ever really appreciated those wonders that appear in the sky once a year all across the USA. However after celebrating the 4th with no fireworks, no funnel cakes, and no corn dogs I have grown to appreciate the simple yet very traditional traditions we have in our lives. So for my own personal amusement and fulfillment I googled fireworks in St. Louis and looked at photos of what I would be viewing and enjoying if I were at home.

Look at those sparklers in the sky behind the arch!!! They are beautiful aren't they?

Well don't let me fool you... we did have an American 4th of July celebration here on the Africa Mercy and it was wonderfully fun. We had supper on the dock while old classic American tributes played in the back ground. We chatted with each other, talked about what we would be doing if we were at home, had goodies, and then took an American crew photo. At the end of the day I have actually found great pride in American, and I can proudly say I know it sounds cliche but I am PROUD to be an American! I hope you all have a GREAT day and Happy 4th of July to each of you all the away from Africa.

Happy 4th of July to you too. Looks like you had a nice time with your fellow crew members. We are so glad that even in Liberia you were able to honor the great USA!! We had a good time with family and friends at the annual 4th of July party at the Longs. Once again they were great host!!! Nick spent the day at St Louis with some of his favorite buds the St Louis Cardinals!!! and brother Nate probably watched the fireworks from colorado. Who would of thought last year that our family would be scattered out on this day. Who would of thought that you would be in Africa. Praying for your friend Alice. Take care and we miss you and love you .

Soooooooo the Cardinals didn't win and I'm pretty disappointed. Too bad you're in Liberia or you could have came down to the Lou with Brett Knueven, Tom Coats, Jace Jones, Scott Knueven, Misty Houston, and a few of our college friends like Ashely Rice's old roommate Dana Sharife. We tried cheering as hard as we could but I didn't have any face paint on and I think that's why the Cards lost. One good thing though was that we managed to sit behind the cardinals dugout from the third inning on. We started on the third base side and got down low before the ushers were checking tickets, then slowly worked our way over to the first base side and then down behind the dugout. Not too bad for $21 standing room only tickets! Hopefully by time you get back I will have a good job and I can get us some tickets for next year. Well I better get back to work, miss you, stay safe.
